This, the first book in the C.A.M.P. Phoenix series features nine-year-old Tyler Brown. He is not looking forward to spending the entire summer hiding from the neighborhood bullies. He receives an invitation to camp where he is assigned to Boar bunkhouse. The Conservatory for the Advancement and Mentoring of Potential was founded by the Phoenix Guard to identify and prepare young wizards to deal with their emerging magic. Each of the twelve bunkhouses on the phantom island houses one each of the nine Destinies: Elf, Metamorph, Apothecary, Alchemist, Sorcerer, Vampire, Werewolf, Dragon and Firebird. As soon as Tyler and the other newcomers arrive at camp they are instructed to decipher their names using numerology. He discovers he's an elf and is assigned to Boar bunkhouse. He and his housemates spend the summer breaking rules, solving mysteries, wielding wands and wearing cloaks as they learn to harness the magic they discover within.
